morning coffee smoothie
I admit it, I cannot start my day without coffee. And as much as I love green smoothies and juice in the morning, fruit and coffee drinks don't exactly mix. I used to work next to a smoothie shop that had my favorite morning drink called the "kick start", satisfying my need for coffee and love of a healthy smoothie for breakfast. They made it with coffee, banana, and almond milk. It was filling and gave me the energy to start the day.
I've been meaning to replicate it for forever, and finally found myself with all of the ingredients, plus a few others, to make a morning smoothie. What I love about this recipe is that it's not too sweet, not heavy at all, but reminds me of a milkshake (especially my favorite Palm Springs date shakes). A bonus is that it's totally Whole 30 complaint!
Ingredients needed (plus a blender- we use a Vitamix) are below.
Morning Coffee Smoothie
makes one serving
- 1/2 cup almond milk*
- 1/2 cup chilled black coffee
- 1/2 banana (frozen if you want a thicker smoothie)
- 2 cups ice
- 1 tablespoon almond butter*
- 3 dates, pitted and chopped
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, but chia seeds are amazing)
- cinnamon (for dusting, or add into recipe)
Add all ingredients into blender, and blend on high for ~30 seconds. Pour into your favorite glass and sprinkle with a little cinnamon. Enjoy!
